The transformation of our bodies
1 Corinthians 15:51-52 is a passage from the New Testament of the Bible, written by the Apostle Paul. These verses are part of Paul’s discourse on the resurrection of the dead and the transformation that will occur at the end of times. The verses read:
“Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed”
In these verses, Paul reveals a “mystery,” meaning a previously hidden truth now being disclosed. He explains that not everyone will experience death (“sleep”), but all believers will undergo a transformation. This change will happen instantaneously, “in the twinkling of an eye,” at the sound of the last trumpet. The trumpet’s blast signifies the end times, at which point the dead will be resurrected in an incorruptible state, free from decay and mortality. Living believers will also be transformed into their glorified, immortal bodies.
This passage offers hope and assurance to Christians about the resurrection and the promise of eternal life. It underscores the power of God to transform and renew, highlighting the ultimate victory over death through Jesus Christ.
Two Major Events
1. The Lord coming in the clouds.
“For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so, shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:15-18).
“For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines even unto the west; so, shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken. And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory” (Matthew 24:27-30, Revelation 14:1).
2. The Lord descends on the earth
(Revelations 19:11-16)
11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the wine-press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
(Zechariah 14:1-5)
4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
